Manouk Essen is conducting her Master's degree in Work and Organizational Psychology research into Social Innovation at the Amsterdam housing corporation Eigen Haard. According to Manouk, Dutch companies score very low when it comes to social innovation. Based on the results of the Erasmus Competitiveness and Innovation Monitor 2005-2010, it appears that technological innovations explain 25 percent of the innovation success, while social innovations account for 75 percent.

By social innovation we mean the development of new management skills (dynamic management), the use of flexible organizational principles (flexible organization) and the realization of high-quality forms of work (smarter working and talent development) in order to increase competitiveness and productivity (Volberda, 2011).
