While Google’s mission has always been to organize the world’s information so that it can be globally accessible and useful, it has also gone to great lengths to reflect that the data provided is reliable and of high quality. Pichai explained how AI integration plays a key role in this and how Google’s natural direction is to continue integrating it in a balanced way into search.
«I think we've always struck a balance , that's what I say, it's not about giving an answer, there are certain times when you give an answer, what is the population of the United States, yes, that's an answerable brazil number data question. There are times when you want to bring out the variety of opinions that are out there on the web, which is what search does and it does it well.
Just because I'm saying we're summarizing it doesn't mean we're deviating from those principles . The summary can still tell you the variety of opinions out there, and we do that all the time these days.
“We’ve done all of this in Google Search for a long time and people like it, engage with it, and trust it. I see it as a natural continuation. With LLMs and AI, I think you have a more powerful tool to do that, which is what we’re bringing to Search with Generative Search Experience, and so we’ll continue to evolve it in that direction as well.”
