Stories are successful (also) because they are predictable but at the same time because they provide answers about the future. The first motivation , often unconscious, that pushes a person to be passionate about a story, depends on its ability to involve her, projecting her into the "plot". We don't just want to be like the protagonist, we want to be the protagonists, we want to feel understood.
The narrative structure to be exciting must be articulated through a series of essential elements: subject, goal, action and result.
