Digital Storytelling: more than just a good story
The difference between the Soundmixshow and The Voice of Holland is storytelling. 'The Voice' offers a “dramaturgical focus on the background of the candidates”. What is at stake for them? How do they experience the competition? What is their motivation? In fact, the candidate's performance is just a short intermezzo in the story that is told about him or her. The reality show thus gets the feel of a movie. That works well in a TV show. But online, the abundance of fragments of potential stories easily leads to chaos and ultimately to disinterest. Because who still goes through the endless stream of photos on Flickr or Google in search of the story? That is a hopeless task. The solution lies in crowdsourcing and automation. In this way, people can bundle and link their discoveries, in order to arrive at a meaningful pattern.
