How many numbers are needed for dynamic call tracking: myths, facts and some statistics

Dynamic call tracking users want all site visitors to see unique numbers. But what if traffic has increased dramatically? For example, you are launching a profitable promotion or a new product and expect an increase in demand: more numbers are needed immediately. But how many should be allocated so as not to overpay? Let's look at the solutions available on the market, look at customer statistics and separate truth from fiction.

How the number of numbers changes during traffic peaks
We analyzed the traffic of Call Tracking clients' websites . The peculiarity of this solution is that when traffic peaks, additional dynamic CT numbers are issued automatically. We will tell you more about this later, but for now let's look at the statistics.

As you can see, from 9am to midnight the traffic flow is fairly even. But let's take a closer look at what's going on with individual companies.

Here, for example, is a client's website that periodically experiences traffic spikes. During peak hours, the site can receive more than 20% of daily traffic. It is important to note that a significant portion of it is made up of transitions from paid sources: they account for 88% of the peak load.

How many dynamic numbers are required for sites with traffic peaks
We analyzed how many numbers the call tracking algorithm allocates for sites with uniform load and sites that have peaks in traffic.

According to our data:

if clients do not have peaks in traffic, for 100-300 visitors per day it is enough to allocate from 12 to 47 dynamic numbers,
with a traffic of 300-500 users per day, 16 to 49 numbers are required,
with traffic of 500–700 users – from 22 to 51 numbers.
But the situation is different for sites with traffic peaks. Visitor spikes require 1.5–4 times more numbers than with the same amount of traffic, but with an even distribution. For example, a client with a daily visit of 100–300 users needs from 17 to 85 unique numbers.
