Customizing the Theme Using Customizing

Post by mouakter13 »

Do you really need to customize your theme?
Sometimes you don't need to customize your theme at all – instead, you need to install a plugin .

Themes dictate the layout of your site – how it looks and how it displays content (use our theme detection tool to identify the underlying theme of a design you like). Plugins add additional functionality.

If the changes you want to make are focused on functionality rather than design, consider installing a plugin yourself. This can be a plugin you need to write, one you download from the plugin directory, or one you purchase.

If you want to edit your theme's functions.php file, ask yourself:

Would you like to keep this functionality if you change themes in the future?

If the answer is yes, that code should go in a plugin, not in your belarus phone number data theme.

Good examples of what you would use a plugin for instead of a theme include adding widgets , registering custom post types and taxonomies , creating custom fields, and adding extra features like a shop or SEO enhancements.

WordPress Theme Customization Through WordPress Admin Screens
If the changes you want to make are design-focused and relatively simple, you may be able to make them through the admin screens. The Customizer gives you a variety of options for tweaking your theme – what’s available will depend on your theme. And you may see something called Editor in the Appearance menu. Stay away from this, for reasons I’ll outline below.

The easiest way to customize your WordPress theme is by using the WordPress Customizer.

This is accessed in one of two ways:

When viewing your site (when logged in), click the Customize link in the admin bar at the top of the screen.
In the administration screens, click Appearance > Customize.
This takes you to Customizing.
