Arquias discussed the importance of evaluating the success of advocacy campaigns and mentioned some indicators that can be used for this evaluation. He highlighted that although the measurement of the work is still under development, especially in the international context, there are some ways to evaluate the impact of campaigns.
"The first step in evaluating the success of an advocacy campaign is to clearly define its objectives. This may include passing a law, renewing a public policy, or mobilizing authorities in favor of a position," he points out.
In addition, the number of authorities and partners that were mobilized in favor of the campaign; the quantity and quality of content produced, such as reports, research documents and articles; and the campaign's engagement reach are other indicators that should be monitored.
An example of successful public policy, mentioned by Arquias, is the norway mobile database Maria da Penha Law. In this project, advocacy played a key role in promoting changes in Brazilian legislation on domestic violence.
In the final moments of the conversation, Arquias also spoke about how technology has impacted advocacy practices. From activities related to communication to legislative monitoring, new technologies have gained space in campaigns.
“Following the agenda of authorities and the matters discussed in the National Congress greatly facilitates our preparation for dialogue with mandates that may be more open to our agendas,” highlights Arquias.
However, in the expert's opinion, caution is needed when using artificial intelligence and human experience and analysis must not be overlooked . After all, advocacy is based on critical thinking and relationships.
