Final words
Natalia Volodina is the founder of the White Tiger Engineering BIM workshop and a BIM engineer specializing numeros de telefonos in Technological Solutions. She has always enjoyed modeling, and designing forced her to think outside the box on standard projects.
So, when telling visitors of the BIM breakfast about creating an information model of a boiler room using point clouds, she decided to describe the project from the end, that is, from the modeling results.

What kind of boiler room model did you get?
So, as a result of painstaking work, BIM engineers from White Tiger Engineering successfully created an information model of the boiler house building with a display of the actual space and position of structural elements, as well as technological communications of the equipment based on laser scanning data.
Moreover, the goals that Natalia voiced were formulated as follows:
Using the information model to implement further design decisions on its basis
Using the information model for further survey
The project implementation period took 60 calendar days. During this time, 7 people were involved in the work and 4 successful site visits were made. The initial data, in addition to the laser scanning results, also included archival drawings of the design and executive documentation, records of consultations with a heating engineer and a 3D model of one of the boilers in AutoCAD.
How the model was created
In December 2022, the White Tiger BIM workshop received a call with a request to create a boiler room model. The customer set the delivery deadline until March 20, 2023, and the level of detail was LOD200. He also promised to send the initial data in the form of point clouds and existing standard 3D-Max boiler models, archive drawings and a survey report so that White Tiger BIM engineers could start working.
Chapter 1. Initial data
The scanning results subsequently came in the form of coordinated color point clouds with a density between two nearest points of no more than 5 mm. Other initial data were also obtained in sufficient volume, even detailed requirements for the model were drawn up. However, this was not enough to begin modeling.
Natalia Volodina admitted that it was difficult for them to work without knowledge of the basic technological processes of the boiler room. Therefore, the White Tiger team had to come to the site, look at it and film it, and also conduct many consultations with leading engineers about what they needed to pay attention to. In other words, delve into and get used to the site.
Chapter 2. Preparation for work
Each team member was assigned their own area of responsibility: Natalia Volodina was the project manager and was responsible for overall coordination of the work, checking the models and communicating with the customer. Other BIM engineers took on the modeling of various areas inside and outside the building: boilers, pipelines, areas around the boilers, structural elements of the building, facades, etc.
Having coordinated the model files and found the intersection point of the A1 axes, Natalia suggested that the team check the readiness of the files. This stage was successful, and the working folders gradually began to fill up with ready models.
Chapter 3. Work processes
Natalia Volodina once again emphasized how important it is to know the object for which the information model is being created, and noted that she could not help but talk about the basic principles of the boiler’s operation, since they directly influenced the principles and speed of modeling.
Gas pipeline
The main function of the boiler is to transfer the thermal energy that occurs when fuel is burned. And the gas pipeline is literally its “heart”. It is quite easy to spot a gas pipe in the point cloud, as it is always colored yellow. If your cloud is black and white, then this will be the pipe with the most reinforcement around it. The gas is supplied through the pipe to the burner, which ensures its combustion in the combustion chamber. Archived gas pipeline diagrams were of great help to White Tiger BIM engineers in modeling this entire network.
