The term "metaverse" was coined in the science fiction novel "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson. The protagonist of the novel moves as an avatar (another term coined from Stephenson's novel ) in a virtual world and accesses a metaverse using special glasses and headphones.
The dystopian novel has been cited several times as a major influence on the creation of the Metaverse, and its vision influenced important figures in Silicon Valley, such as the founders of Google and Amazon (article in English). There are several main criteria that define the Metaverse according to Zuckerberg's ideas:
The immersion of users through avatars and special technologies (connected thailand telegram networks, augmented reality and virtual reality )
Access to a digital world that you can enter or leave at any time
Permanence of certain elements (such as purchased objects, real estate, neighborhoods and streets)
The video game industry is the spearhead of the metaverse
The idea of the metaverse may have been born out of fiction, but it gave rise to some very real elements. The video game industry soon took advantage of the concept of the metaverse.
