Dani: We've run and launched successful hackathons at all times of the year.
The main things to consider are holidays, as we see participation drop off around holidays. People are busy. I’d suggest trying to avoid dates that fall over major holidays.

But, as people are getting back into the school year, or even wrapping things up for the year, those can be great times to launch as well.
