The world's first McDonald's restaurant, which is completely powered by renewable energy sources, has opened in Florida, USA.
The building was designed by Chicago-based Ross Barney Architects. The restaurant has a total area of 8,024 square feet (745 m²), which includes a kitchen, drive-thru, dining area, order area, covered terrace, and more.
panels, which are estimated to generate 704.7 thousand kWh per year. There are also photovoltaic glass panels installed throughout the building.
The restaurant has natural ventilation 65% of the time. When the air sweden number data conditioning needs to be turned on, automatic window blinds are activated (they respond to humidity and temperature sensors).
The exterior walls of the building are covered with living plants (the vertical “flowerbed” area is over 1,700 square feet, or 158 m²). They purify the air and retain water.
Solar energy also powers the lights installed in the parking lot. Their autonomous power system allows the restaurant to save 8,000 kWh per year.
McDonald's says the new restaurant will be a learning center for the company, using it to test new solutions to reduce water and energy consumption.
In 2021, the network plans to undergo international "zero energy consumption" certification, and by 2030, reduce its own greenhouse gas emissions by 36%.
