The tutoring services market in Russia is growing year after year: according to the results of a study by inFOLIO Research Group, in 2012 the volume of this market was 26.2 billion rubles, which was 13.9% more than in 2011. The study separately reflects the market for preparation for the Unified State Exam, which has grown by 23% over the past year - this means that 6-8 billion rubles were spent on preparing schoolchildren for the Unified State Exam.
It is true that what is interesting is that in 2010 the market volume was estimated at 32-50 billion rubles, and its growth over the period 2008-2010 reached 16% per year.
Such scatter and inconsistency of data have their reasons. Perhaps the main characteristic of the tutoring services market, according to the results of the study, was its lack of transparency, which is explained by the reluctance of market participants to contact sociologists.
There is even a concept of "shadow education" that reflects the real state of affairs in the educational market, and this concerns not only the Russian, but also many European markets. Thus, in Germany, Greece, France, the volume of the "shadow" education market is from 1.5 to 2 billion euros per year.
In Russia, before the introduction of the Unified State Exam, according to data from the Higher School of Economics, 21.7% of school teachers, 8.9% of technical school teachers, and 15.5% of higher education teachers were engaged in tutoring.
Pedagogical freelancing in Russia: problems and prospects
A study conducted by inFOLIO Research Group has identified some features of the development of the Russian market of pedagogical freelance. Thus, stability is manifested in the constant growth of prices for tutoring services: for example, in 2011, on average, the cost of lessons with a tutor in Russia increased by 11.7%.
The researchers identified the following as negative factors:
a slight decrease in the number of consumers of tutoring services (by 3.7%), associated with the demographic situation;
a trend towards an increase in the number of insufficiently qualified teachers, especially in the foreign language segment (up to 14%);
low quality of tutoring services in general, despite the increase in their cost (21% of surveyed students considered the quality of the lessons received to be low, and 46% called it insufficient).
The trend of rising prices coupled with a decline in the quality of services, according to Vladimir Kuzmin, is alarming and forces consumers to look for possible solutions to this problem. One of these ways is to use the direct moving leads email lists services of a remote tutor, who can offer a price for their lessons lower than the "full-time" one, for a number of reasons (different region of residence, fewer regalia, no transportation costs).
• bring the educational process closer to the peculiarities of perception of modern students, taking into account the so-called “clip-like” nature of consciousness;
• interest and encourage independent research activities;
• expand the range of possible teacher choices (you can study with a tutor from another city or even from another country);
• solve the current problem of eternal lack of time;
• open up new facets of cooperation and mutual learning between teachers and students, who are much better oriented in the new digital world than the older generation.
According to Svetlana Pavlova, “digital students,” who are the future of education, not only learn effectively and consciously themselves, but also teach their teachers a lot. For example, free creative self-expression, new ways of communicating and conveying information, creativity and readiness to experiment.
The material was prepared using data provided by the general director of the company "Distance Tutor" DisTTutor Svetlana Aleksandrovna Pavlova and the project manager, founderDisTutorVladimir Alexandrovich Kuzmin.
