The rise of Generative AI (GenAI) poses risks and opportunities for IT and business leaders. In fact, according to Gartner, by 2027, AI performance will be recognized as a key economic indicator of national strength, ComuterWeekly reports.

CEOs believe GenAI will impact how they build more agile, adaptable organizations that are better prepared for the future. “GenAI represents an opportunity to do things that have never been possible at the scale of human existence,” said Daryl Plummer, distinguished vice president and analyst at Gartner. “CIOs and CEOs will need to embrace the risks associated with using GenAI to reap unprecedented benefits.”

Gartner’s analysis of technology trends shows that over the past year, all other technology innovations have been pushed out of the spotlight. “GenAI has taken the lead and continues to generate more and more excitement,” Plummer added.

Many business leaders believe that AI will destroy jobs. Gartner urges leaders to clearly communicate their intentions for implementing AI within the company to avoid unintended consequences. The analysts warn that organizations that implement GenAI and fail to clearly address their knowledge workers’ concerns about AI will see turnover increase by 20%.

Gartner notes that, in addition to CEOs, governments are also making serious commitments to AI and prioritizing strategies and plans that recognize AI as a key technology in both the private and public sectors. This means incorporating AI into long-term national planning, which is supported by the adoption of appropriate laws and regulations to support AI initiatives.
