Omdia: Key Tech Trends of 2024
01.02.2024
A new report from research and consulting company Omdia, “Tech Trends to Watch 2024,” presents the key technology trends to watch in 2024 that will impact consumers, businesses, and society as a whole, ITPro Today reports.

The report highlights key advances in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, sustainability, media, automotive and telecommunications that will transform industries.

by Omdia analysts, the following can be highlighted:

Accelerate the creation of AI-powered user experiences. Integrating AI into interfaces, devices, and platforms will provide a more natural user experience.
AI-driven semiconductor market recovery: The semiconductor market will return to growth thanks to increased demand for AI chips.
Maximizing IT investments. Companies will focus on optimizing IT assets and balancing costs.
Finding the Right Balance in Security Organizations will continue to strive to balance security needs with costs.
6G Development : While 5G deployment continues, work on the 6G technology standard will accelerate in 2024.
The biggest surprise in the forecast, which Omdia analysts did not expect a year ago, is the rapid growth of AI. “I don’t think anyone in January 2023 expected the disruption that GenAI would cause,” says Bill Morelli, vice president of enterprise IT research at Omdia.

He notes that the dramatic change in AI china mobile database has led to widespread publicity, which has then led to rapid adoption by many enterprises, as well as the adoption of AI by a number of technology vendors and solution providers, who have raced to integrate GenAI's capabilities into their existing tools.

“The ripple effect is huge, impacting everything from power consumption and data center cooling technologies to the launch of new consumer and enterprise devices like AI-powered PCs,” Morelli says.

The Rise of XaaS and FinOps Culture
One of the key trends outlined in the report is that rising capital expenditures will fuel the rise of a new wave of everything-as-a-service (XaaS) and the development of a financial operations (FinOps) culture.

“Moving to XaaS is not just a financial issue, although it does require some financial management and planning to understand where there are losses and opportunities,” says Roy Illsley, principal analyst for enterprise IT at Omdia.
