Stylists/Creative Directors
You may have an idea in mind, but you may not be sure how to bring it to life in the way you imagined. That's where great stylists and creative directors come in to guide you. They are specialists in turning your mental vision into reality. They will add another level of professionalism to your photos and make sure that the result is perfect.
Ask your friends in the industry for references. They will give you reliable information about their work ethic, personality, etc.

In studio or outdoors
Artists should consider shooting both in the studio and outdoors. If you want more serious photos with dramatic lighting, indoor studio lighting works wonders. Outdoor photos offer the opportunity for more fun and creative photos. Ideally, you want to have both in your press photo arsenal.
It's a good idea to try to vary your shots. Giving more options to journalists, promoters, directors, etc. will make it easier for them to place you in their reports. The idea is to make their job as easy as possible, i.e. not give them any reason NOT to use your material.
Vertical: 8.5 x 11 inches, 800 x 1200 pixels (suitable for magazine covers)
Landscape: 11 x 8.5 inches, 1200 x 800 pixels (ideal for double-page spreads)
Square: 10 x 10 inches, 1000 x 1000 pixels (useful for album covers and social media profiles)
You should also have several types of shots. These include: close-up, full-body, ambient (i.e. you in action), creative (i.e. more artistic, unique), and group shots if you're in a band with other people. Keep in mind that these photos aren't just for press. More creative photos can be used for album art, merch, or even tour posters and personal social media content. More serious ones may be better suited for editorial shoots. The more options you have, the better off you'll be.
