What we will see in this paragraph has to do with broken outgoing links: what can happen if I don't fix a broken link that was pointing to a site that no longer exists?
First of all, here are two fundamental elements to understand what we are talking about:
Importance of backlinks : as briefly mentioned above, incoming links are very boost your business with our doctor database important for positioning, they are seen by Google as tributes of trust, theoretically if I link to a site it is because I trust it, and having backlinks from authoritative and/or well-made sites is always an advantage for SEO purposes.
The 301 redirect passes the "ranking power" (or " link juice "): with the 301 redirect it is indicated that the resource has been moved permanently and users and spiders are automatically redirected to the new content. The trust is also transferred , the "trust tribute" I was talking about before.
Let's suppose that years ago I wrote a post and inserted a link to a site that I considered reliable and with valid content, that I trusted and to which I had no problem redirecting my users. After some time, for whatever reason, the site is not maintained and the domain expires : my article will now contain a link to a site that no longer exists.
Let's see how the broken links problem will evolve...
Some more time passes and the owner of another site, which possibly deals with similar topics to those of the site I linked, notices that my site contains this broken link, a link to an expired domain that can be freely purchased. Knowing that he can count on the strength of that link , he could decide to buy the expired domain for a few euros and set up a 301 redirect to its contents .
In practice, my article, written years ago and never checked again, will now still lead users to another site, but not the one analyzed and chosen by me, but rather to one that, potentially, I have never seen.
Obviously, situations like this can only occur within reliable and highly trusted sites .
