Why I Decided to Go Numberless

Post by mouakter13 »

No More SIM Card Chaos
When you travel frequently, dealing with local SIM cards is a hassle. Some countries require registration with your passport, others have expensive tourist plans, and in many places, you’ll lose your number as soon as you leave. I got tired of juggling multiple SIMs, so I switched to Wi-Fi-only communication—and it’s been seamless.

Better Security & Privacy
A phone number is one of the easiest ways for hackers to target special database you. SIM-swapping attacks (where someone steals your number to access your accounts) are on the rise, and many banks still use SMS for two-factor authentication (2FA), which is shockingly insecure. By removing my number from accounts and switching to email-based logins and authenticator apps, I’ve made myself a much harder target.

Fewer Spam Calls & Unwanted Contacts
Ever get random calls from foreign numbers while traveling? Without a phone number, I don’t. No more telemarketers, no more "Hey, I got your number from a mutual friend" texts. I control exactly who can reach me—usually through encrypted apps like Signal or Telegram.
