Closing the gap between native apps and the mobile web
Performance, distribution and monetization are the trinity for a successful app. Simon Cross , developer at Facebook, kicked things off with a quote from Mark Zuckerberg:

“when I'm retrospective about the last few years, I think the biggest mistake that we've made as a company is betting too much on HTML5 as opposed to native.

Early September Facebook launched an update of their mobile app.

The app is not hybrid (platform independent ), but native (platform dependent )
The app communicates directly with system resources (processor, geolocation, camera) via the operating system (the software engine of the device, such as iOS and Android). In contrast to hybrid apps that communicate via an intermediate layer such as Phonegap (javascript and HTML5)
