On to Silicon Valley! National Development Council Overseas Startup Base + 1 Two-way linking of international startup ecosystem and overseas talent recruitment

Following the establishment of a startup base in Tokyo, Japan in 2024, the National Development Council will further establish a second overseas startup base in Silicon Valley, the United States on January 13, 2025, Pacific Time. NDC Chairman Liu Jingqing personally led a delegation to preside over the opening ceremony, which brought together more than 300 Taiwanese startups and local representatives to witness the historic moment of Taiwan-US startup exchanges.

In his speech, Chairman Liu said that the world has line data been facing a capital winter in recent years. In 2023, the amount of global startup fundraising declined by nearly 40% compared with the previous year. However, Taiwan's startup fundraising bucked the trend and grew by 10% to US$2.8 billion, a new high. This shows that Taiwan's startup capacity and investment market are better than the world. It is expected to grow by 20% annually in the future and reach the target of US$5 billion in scale by 2027.

The establishment of Taiwan's new startup base in Palo Alto, the core of Silicon Valley, is of indicative significance. It will build a two-way bridge between Taiwan and Silicon Valley's innovation ecosystem. In the future, Taiwan's new startup base in Silicon Valley will actively play the role of a bridge, connecting more than 1,000 community partners within a year and helping at least 100 startups connect with local Silicon Valley companies, venture capital and other resources.

In addition, attracting outstanding overseas talents to Taiwan is also a key focus of this trip. Chairman Liu personally presented employment gold cards to two gold card awarding representatives, David Lam and Mark Birch, to welcome top talents from around the world to join. Dennis Liu, general manager of Startup Island TAIWAN Silicon Valley Base, also signed a memorandum of cooperation with Sibyl Chen, general manager of Berkeley SkyDeck Accelerator, to deepen the connection between Taiwan and the United States' innovative and creative resources.
