Tell us about your family.
The whole family are doctors. Dad is a surgeon, Mom is a gynecologist. My aunts are also doctors. One of my grandmothers is a dentist. And my grandfather is an honored teacher of the RSFSR. Dad was a young head doctor who was sent to the suburbs to build a large hospital. Mom was a brilliant gynecologist, she was already giving reports at conferences in her fourth year at the institute. A scientific career awaited her, but after her sixth year, she followed Dad to improve medicine in rural areas. Actually, I also studied at the medical institute to become a pediatrician. I wanted to be a child psychiatrist. It was very fashionable at the time - we read Jung, Freud, Castaneda, and did "cross-soul searching." There was such an aura of special romanticism, and psychoanalysis was still almost a taboo word in science. I think I would have become a good doctor, but hardly a psychiatrist.
