following situation: you went to register on a website or participate in an online lecture and the company asked you to fill out a form with personal information.

The problem is that this information should be confidential, but many companies sell your data without your authorization and then comes our old acquaintances spam, phone calls and those promotional calls from companies you don't even know.

And the problem doesn't stop there. Several cases of personal data leaks and misuse of information have become public in recent years.

An example of data misappropriation was the British political marketing company philippine number for whatsapp Cambridge Analytica, which used Facebook user data without permission.

But, with the General Data Protection Law, the game changes and now the power is where it should be: in your hands and we will explain what changes for you and for companies.

What is LGPD?
The General Data Protection Law is a descendant of the GPDR, an acronym in English for General Data Protection Regulation, which translated means “General Data Protection Regulation”.

The GPDR emerged in Europe after scandals involving data leaks without consent by giants such as Facebook, which was ordered to pay a fine of 5 billion dollars, in addition to complying with a series of obligations on its social network.

In August 2020, the General Data Protection Law came into effect in Brazil and changed the way companies use your personal data and gives you control over your information. With this, Brazil becomes one of the 120 countries that have specific regulations for the use of personal data.

However, despite the law already being in force, companies have until August 2021 to comply and only after that date will they be punished for misuse of information.

What will change for citizens with the new LGPD?
With the new law, companies will need to have your explicit consent and must clearly inform you about how your data will be used.

You may, at any time, cancel or request the deletion of your data from the companies' systems and punish those responsible for any misuse of your information.
